Over the past few years, the most efficient cars have had the added benefit of securing cheaper road tax. But if you are looking for a new car, which small petrol vehicles currently achieve more than 50MPG?

The manufacturers give their official MPG rating based on a number of tests prescribed by the government, but What Car Magazine tested out a number of small petrol cars and we list out the results below...
